Just a drop of blood will tell us how much our body is using sugar (glucose). A drop can tell us if we have too much of a blood thinner or not enough blood thinner in our system. I’m sure all of the adults have had blood drawn for various testing. These tests can tell us a variety of things, like if we have too much fat in our diet, have we had a heart attack, do we have an infection in our body that we are fighting, or are we anemic?
Our blood is what carries the oxygen though out our body, which we need to live. No enough oxygen, and our lips, fingers and possibly toes turn blue and we struggle to breath at time. Not enough oxygen also causes us not to think straight or become confused.
It carries the iron that our cells need to give us energy.
We can literally die if we lose 2 much blood.
OK so that’s some of the important things that our blood does for our body.
Now let’s look at some of the things the Bible has to say about blood and it’s uses.
Exodus 12 tells the importance of blood for protection.
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.
10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’S passover.
12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
Exodus 4:22
If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him.
3If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; This was part of the commandments given to Moses and is saying if the thief lives a blood sacrifice must be offered for his sin. In Leviticus there is many passages instructing the Israelites on the various sacrifices that God required of them and how to go about carrying them out. The animal sacrifices always required the animal to be killed, thus shedding it’s blood.
Leviticus 3:8 Peace offering: And he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering, and kill it before the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aaron’s sons shall sprinkle the blood thereof round about upon the altar. 9And he shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace offering.
Leviticus 4: 5 & 25
Sin offering: 5And the priest that is anointed shall take of the bullock’s blood, and bring it to the tabernacle of the congregation: 6And the priest shall dip his finger in the blood, and sprinkle of the blood seven times before the LORD, before the veil of the sanctuary. 7And the priest shall put some of the blood upon the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the LORD, which is in the tabernacle of the congregation; and shall pour all the blood of the bullock at the bottom 25And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and shall pour out his blood at the bottom of the altar of burnt offering.
This is just a very few scriptures that describes the sacrifices and the shedding of blood. But these sacrifices were only temporary. Each time someone sinned, they needed to sacrifice an animal to be forgiven of that sin.
Praise GOD!!!!! We aren’t required to sacrifice an animal each time we sin. JESUS did that for us when he Died on the cross. Once and forever!!!!
Here are some scriptures from the new testament about blood and it’s power.
Matthew 26:27-28 Jesus says that the shedding of HIS blood is for the remission of sins.
Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Jesus was talking to the Pharacees and Saducees when he said in:
Luke 11:50-
That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;
51 From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.
John 6:51-59
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
He isn’t asking us to literally eat his flesh and drink his blood (He’s not expecting us to become cannibals, but to study his word and live the life He expects us live, allowing his blood sacrifice to free us from our sins once and forever.
Paul, when talking to the Greeks in Athens told them about Jesus’ blood.
Acts 17:22b-31
I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. 24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.
30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
In closing, I Praise God that he sent Jesus to shed his blood for my sins, but not just mine for all that will accept that sacrifice and live for him.
